ROMI has a direct commitment to the development of a sustainable society, increasingly committing itself to the preservation of natural resources. To this end, it has an Integrated Quality, Environment, Occupational Health and Safety Policy , whose pillars are: focus on the customer, compliance with legal and regulatory standards, involvement of people, prevention and continuous improvement, which ensures respect and care for the environment, guaranteeing the shareholder a consistent and responsible return.

In line with sustainable development, ROMI has an Environmental Management System certified since 2005, in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard, currently in the 2015 revision , in which it invests uninterruptedly and consistently to prevent the emission of pollutants, in all aspects related to its business.

Electric Power Consumption

ROMI monitors its energy consumption through performance indicators, whose targets are reviewed annually, imposing action plans to achieve them.

In recent years, more than 4 million reais have been invested in improvements aimed at reducing electricity consumption, including the updating of ROMI's industrial park:

• 2019: 590 thousand reais in a reactive compensation system;
• 2019 to 2021: more than 2 million reais in LED lights;
• 2019 to 2021: more than 900 thousand reais in replacement of compressors;
• 2020: 72 thousand reais in the photovoltaic exhaust system of the Factory Unit 03;
• 2020 to 2021: more than 430 thousand reais in replacement of oven cooling towers.

With the implementation of these actions, there has been a constant drop in electricity consumption measured in the last three years.

In 2021, the NR10 and SPDA adaptation project of the manufacturing units was also approved, which aims to adapt the ROMI facilities to the NBR5410 and NBR5419, with an estimated investment of 5 million reais.

Water Consumption and Treatment

As with electricity, the conscious consumption of water is a factor of great importance for ROMI.

In recent years, thanks to the use of new technologies and better-performing products, ROMI has started to rely on the daily reuse of 12 thousand liters of water in its most consuming production process.

As a result, not completely discarding water from the tanks generates savings of more than 28 thousand liters of water per day.

In addition, ROMI periodically makes several investments aimed not only at the economy, but also at the best quality of the water that is used to supply the manufacturing units and for human consumption.

In 2021, more than 2,500 internal analyzes of the amount of chlorine and more than 700 external analyzes of parameters of potability of water for consumption were carried out.

Waste and Effluent Management

Measures are also taken to manage the generated waste, whether hazardous or not, for a better final destination. In 2021, around 4.2 million reais were spent on waste disposal and, on the other hand, more than 2.8 million reais were reversed in revenue from the sale of scrap.

In the last year, more than 62 thousand tons of waste were generated, of which only 0.32% were hazardous waste - Class I, which means that the measures taken by ROMI in relation to the disposal of solid waste have reflected in the benefit of all the community.

And this number tends to decrease, since ROMI has, since 2021, a sand calciner installed at the Foundry, which aims at the thermal recovery of foundry sand, considered today the highest generation waste of ROMI's operations.

The installation of the calciner had an investment of almost 2.5 million reais and promises to reduce/eliminate waste disposal in the process, with a recovery capacity of 2 ton/h.

ROMI also has two effluent treatment stations, which are responsible for treating 100% of the effluent generated by the Company. The average efficiency of the treatment is 96% , a number much higher than that required by legislation (80%).

And ROMI's actions to care for the environment don't stop there. ROMI's entire product development chain is constantly revisited and improved using new technologies and engineering solutions, which make its products and services increasingly sustainable.

With the use of the latest technological innovations in industrial machines, in addition to the development of new business models, ROMI is able to integrate efficient solutions with the quality of the ROMI brand into its products and services, without compromising the guarantee of a sustainable product, for example:

• Accessories that minimize cutting fluid and air contamination;
• Automation;
• Energy reuse module;
• Use of components with optimized consumption;
• Thermal compensation system;
• Energy consumption monitoring and control system;
• Machine as a Service (ROMI MAAS) business model
• Circular economy concepts (repurchase and sale of used machines).
